"DJUNA BARNES aka. Maria Gerhardt
Is quite a legend in Copenhagen nightlife – Due to a apperance in a dj-documentary, several interviews, a weekly column in a leading danish newspapaer and the musicmagazine Soundvenue and - of course 6 years of heavy rotation on every club worth to mention in the city. She was a main figure in trashdrag – performance and party group - Dunst, and queen member of Suicide Sundays, Daterape, Special Peoples Club and Yohad!
She is currently resident at Vega Nightclub and Dunkel, as well as promoter and booker at the cool Icelandic owned spot in the meatpacking district/Kødbyen – Jolene bar. She has done Fashion show for Henrik Vibskov, Stine Goya and Mads Nørgaard as well as music-counselling for leading Danish filmmakers. She is begining to co-produce tracks and has recently released a re-working of an old danish punk classic, together with her two good friends Tomboy from Whomadewho and Gomma records and Anders Trentemøller.
Djuna plays a wide spektr of cool electronic music, but she likes dark edgy beats, strange vocals, surprices and hidden agendas in electro/house/techno/ghetto/indie/pop
She has - among other places - played abroad @ Rio, Fun club, Villa and Scala in Berlin, Debaser in Stockholm, Dachkantine in Zürich, Sirkus in Rejkavik, Le Pulp in Paris, Machine, Union Gallery & Nothing Hills Art Club in London, Mr. Black, Ruff Club and Happy Ending in New York City. Indigo Club in Tokyo.
She has played – among others – alongside: Peaches, Miss Kittin, Ellen Alien, Clohé, Hannah Holland, Chicks on Speed, Mr. Ozio, Hot Chip, Simian Mobile Disco, Joakim, Tiefswartz, SeBastian, Felix The Housecat, Justice, The Glimmers and Switch.
